A New Creation
The idea for ArtAbilitry began in 2007 after
collaborating
with
the Mental Health and
Recovery
Board
on a quilt called Caterpillar
Garden. Inspired
by the out-come
of this
project, being encouraged
by clients
and seeing
art-based programs around
the state, staff
members began
making contacts
throughout
the community seeking out possible
partners for a new creation; ArtAbility.
Knowing that space was limited at the Industries, the search began
for an area that would be open to hosting this new program and
large
enough to accommodate the artwork.
In May 2008, the hard work paid off when a group of artists and two staff members opened the studio on the second floor at ArtSpace/Lima.
ArtAbility Studio has proven to be an exciting and successful new venture for Marimor Adult Services that helps promote the ideas of choice and program alternatives for the people served. The individuals work, but in a more artistic and creative setting. The studio focuses on developing and promoting creativity and expression in people with disabilities. A group of 10-12 artists from Marimor attend the studio five days a week working on a variety of independent projects.
